Clean and Green

Clean and Green

At The Crown Hotel we believe in protecting the beautiful environment of Hawke’s Bay and want to ensure that your children or grandchildren can visit and enjoy it too.  The Crown Hotel is committed to protecting our environment and preserving our precious natural resources.  By going “green”, we have made a promise to promote a lifestyle that ensures our environmental impact on the world around us is minimal and as positive as possible.  We support local Hawkes Bay operators and do our best to promote the good work they are doing throughout the community.

Our Environmental Promise To You

To this end, we’ve developed an environmental plan and welcome your support for this initiative. We have integrated various methods of green living into our daily lives and encourage our guests and team members to do the same.

As our guest, we invite you to enjoy our services while understanding our environmental policy. You may wish to:

  • Reuse towels by hanging them on the towel rack. Towels left on the floor will be replaced
  • Our policy is to change bed sheets every third day. If you are staying longer and don’t wish your sheets to be changed on the third day, please advise housekeeping.
  • Turn off lights, equipment and air conditioning/heating when not required.  Remove the key card from the power saver in your room and switch off your air conditioning before going out.
  • Turn the Television off at the screen to reduce energy
  • Conserve water by taking shorter showers or turning taps off when not required.
  • Recycle waste. Housekeeping automatically recycles your rubbish for you by separating paper, cardboard, bottles, 1 and 2 plastics and cans. If you wish to use our recycling bins, they are located at the far end of the carpark basement area.
  • Enjoy our bar and restaurant or walk to one of the many other facilities nearby.
  • Walk, run or cycle the boardwalk which is along the foreshore. This joins to over 40 kms of the Rotary Pathways.  Cycle hire is available from Reception.

Our sustainability will be an ongoing journey which should improve with time and experience.  In order to achieve this we pledge the following:

  • To think before we buy – we buy locally and order in bulk whenever possible. We re-use or recycle before buying new.
  • To think before we use – By efficient use of energy, water, office products, fuel and other resources we ensure our business reduces the environmental impact.
  • To think before we discard – we recycle and compost as much waste as possible.
